Christmas creative writing lesson aimed at KS3 (can easily be adapted for any year group.) Differentiation using aim/challenge/super challenge and the GCSE mark scheme. Uses a clip from ‘The Snowman’ and asks students to use the ‘show don’t tell’ technique to describe the snowman coming to life.

A lesson teaching the poem ‘Charge of the light brigade’ from the GCSE power and conflict poetry. Differentiated using the GCSE mark scheme and aim/challenge/super challenge. Includes context, annotations and language analysis tasks.

A lesson aimed at KS3 to introduce them to the characters in the play. Lesson includes various activities, ending in a diary entry task from the perspective of one of the characters. Differentiated tasks including challenge tasks.

2 x lessons aimed at KS3 but can be used for KS4. Lessons include reading an extract from the GCSE text ‘A Christmas Carol’ and then completing descriptive writing tasks. Lessons are a nice way to keep lessons Christmas themed while still teaching important skills and introducing GCSE texts to younger students. All lessons differentiated using the GCSE mark scheme and aim/challenge/super challenge. All lessons planned using TEEP.

A lesson aimed at KS3 but can be adapted for older year groups. Uses the poem ‘The Night Before Christmas’ to help students plan and write their own poem. Differentiated using aim/challenge/super challenge.

A lesson introducing students to the character of Lady Macbeth and analysing her role within the play. Differentiated tasks/questions. Looks at the context of the play and the role of women in the 17th Century.
